Perfect air fryer soft Boiled Eggs every time!

I like a good soft boiled egg in the morning, but I can’t tell you how many times I get distracted in the morning with the kids and lose track of when the water starts boiling. So I decided to try them in the air fryer and it worked wonders!

All you have to do is place the egg in the air fryer and come back when you hear your air fryer beeping that it’s done!

It’s honestly changed my breakfast game completely to the point I have to make twice as many eggs because the kids keep eating mine.

My daughter won’t even eat an egg unless it was air fried and not boiled in water because of the better texture.

And if you love a good air fryer egg recipe, try my hard boiled eggs, fried eggs, poached eggs, scrambled eggs, and egg bites!

Why You Should Eat Air Fryer Eggs

  • Quick and consistent soft boiled eggs
  • High protein, low carb breakfast
  • No baby-sitting a boiling pot
  • Perfect jammy texture every time
  • Ready in minutes

Ingredients for Air Fryer Soft Boiled Eggs

  • Eggs — older eggs will peel easier
  • Ice water

STEP TWO: Once heated, place the eggs in the air fryer basket or tray.

STEP THREE: Cook for 10 minutes.

STEP FOUR: Use tongs to immediately transfer the soft boiled eggs to a bowl filled with cold water and ice cubes.

STEP FIVE: Allow to cool in the ice bath for at least 10 minutes.

Tips for the Best Air Fryer Soft Boiled Eggs

  • Timing is everything. To find that perfect egg, start with 4 eggs in the air fryer. Take one out at 10 minutes, one at 11 minutes, one at 12 minutes, and one at 13 minutes. Find which one you like best! This is how I first tested this recipe!
  • Choose eggs with smooth, uncracked shells. If you try to soft boil an egg with a cracked shell, it may not cook properly.
  • Have the ice bath ready when the eggs finish cooking. They need to go into the ice water as quickly as possible so they don’t overcook.
  • If the ice in the ice bath is melting, add more ice on top of the eggs. If the water isn’t cold enough, it might not stop the eggs from cooking.
  • Store leftover soft boiled eggs in the refrigerator for up to 2 days.
  • To reheat soft boiled eggs, drop them in a bowl of warm-to-hot water and let them soak for 10-20 minutes. The water should warm the eggs up, but not be hot enough to actually cook the eggs more.

Ways to serve these soft boiled eggs

  • Add them on a piece of toast: Put the egg right on a piece of toast with some salt and a crack of pepper! I like to add a little avocado and tomato as well.
  • Dunk them with bread: When I have leftover Italian bread, I love to dip it into the jammy yolk!
  • Top your favorite salad: I find adding soft boiled eggs to a salad make it much more flavorable and adds more protein. Plus it’s easy meal prep!
  • Switch up your egg salad: Use soft boiled eggs inside an egg salad instead! It creates a nice new flavor and I think it’s delicious!
  • Did anyone say Ramen?: I won’t have a bowl of Ramen without adding a nice boiled eggs on the top anymore. Try it and you’ll understand why.
  • Just as a quick snack: I love to add a bit of everything but the bagel seasoning for some added flavor, but just a little salt and pepper will do the trick too!

I also serve these with air fryer hash browns and sausage when I want a little more of a filling breakfast in little time too!

Soft boiled vs hard boiled eggs

Soft boiled eggs have runny yolks and just-set whites. Best of all, they only take about 10 minutes to cook up in the air fryer.

If you prefer hard-boiled eggs, simply extend the cooking time to 14-15 minutes for solid yolks and firm whites. This longer cooking time ensures the proteins set completely.

Air Fryer Eggs FAQs

How Long to Cook Soft Boiled Eggs in the Air Fryer

I find that just 10 minutes at 275 degrees F is the perfect amount of time to cook soft boiled eggs in my air fryer using large eggs. Just be sure to transfer them to the ice bath right away to stop the cooking process.

  • Soft/runny yolk: 10 minutes
  • Medium eggs: 12 to 13 minutes
  • Hard Boiled Eggs: 15 to 17 minutes

If the eggs have been sitting at room temperature, you may want to reduce the cooking time by a minute or two.

How to Peel Eggs Easier

The easiest trick to peeling soft boiled or hard boiled eggs is to use older eggs! Fresher, especially farm fresh eggs, will stick to the membrane more causing the egg to be harder to peel.

I always buy my eggs 1 to 2 weeks before I actually need them for this very reason.

Also, after cooking, make sure to put the eggs into ice-cold water to stop the cooking process and shrink the egg from the shell. This is not optional step.

How do you preheat your air fryer because I have no preheat button. Just put it on 275 for 10 minutes and then pop the eggs in for another 10 minutes?

    1. Sam says:

Hi Marie, Yes, you have the correct idea. Here is a handy guide on How to Preheat An Air Fryer if your appliance doesn’t have a preheat button. Enjoy!

Came out exactly as detailed. However, after the 10 minute ice bath, the eggs were barely warm. Not sure how to remedy that. Great recipe, thank you.

    1. Sam says:

Hi B, The ice bath is there to stop the cooking process. If you’d like to serve the eggs a little warmer, you can shorten the ice bath to about 5 minutes and enjoy them right away.
