My Favorite Way to Make a Corn Dog in the Air Fryer
I love going to the fair with my kids and one of our favorite things to do is grab a nice hot corn dog from one of the food vendors. My daughter Leah asked me why we couldn’t make them at home, and that’s when it hit me to try making air fryer corn dogs.
Now, I’ve tried to microwave those frozen corn dogs before, and even baking them in the oven, but the excitement is lost when they take so long to cook. And, we all know kids are not the most patient, including my kids.
The next week, I grabbed a box of State Fair Corn Dogs from the frozen aisle at the store and tossed a few corn dogs in the air fryer. As soon as I opened the basket and saw how golden they were, I knew I’d found a winner.
My daughter Leah grabbed one right from my hand and after taking a bite with a nice crunch, asked me why she wasn’t invited to the fair. I laughed and told her I finally found a way to make them at home so they were crispy and hot, just like the ones we get every summer.
I’ve never seen her so giddy. And, she asked me two days later to make them again.

Tips for the Best Frozen Corn Dogs in the Air Fryer
- I always preheat the air fryer because it’s the best way to get that super crispy breading on the outside.
- Air fry corn dogs in a single layer in the basket. I make sure to leave space between each frozen corn dog.
- There’s no need to thaw the frozen corn dogs. I just place them in the air fryer straight from the freezer!
- If the corn dogs aren’t browning, I’ll give them a spritz of cooking spray and air fry for 1-2 more minutes.
- If I want to make mini frozen corn dogs in the air fryer, I preheat to 350 degrees F and cook them for about 7 to 9 minutes.
Air Fryer Corn Dogs Variations and Substitutions
- For some extra flavor, I’ll add a sprinkle of chili powder or paprika before cooking.
- If I’m craving a sweet-and-savory twist, I’ll brush the frozen corn dogs with a little honey. This really brings out the taste of the cornbread coating!
- For a lighter option, I’ll use plant-based or turkey corn dogs.
- I sometimes add shredded cheese over the corn dogs right when they finish air frying, then close the basket to melt the cheese. My kids love this cheesy version!
- When I want a little kick, I’ll add a dusting of Cajun seasoning or even some cayenne pepper.
What to Serve with Corn Dogs in the Air Fryer
I love serving all my favorite comfort foods to go with air fryer corn dogs like air fryer tater tots, air fryer French fries, and air fryer frozen onion rings!
If I’m craving something hearty, I’ll also whip up some Instant Pot mac and cheese, air fryer grilled cheese, or loaded fries.
Best Sauces for Air Fry Corn Dogs
My go-to dips for corn dogs are classic ketchup and mustard, but I also like switching it up with BBQ sauce, ranch, honey mustard, spicy mayo, or even honey sriracha. My kids mix ketchup and mayo for their own dipping combo, which they now call “fry sauce.”
Air Fryer Corn Dogs FAQs

I air fry frozen corn dogs for 10-12 minutes to get them crispy on the outside and fully heat the hot dog on the inside! If I’m making mini corn dogs in the air fryer, I use these instructions instead.

My favorite brand of corn dogs is State Fair Classic Corn Dogs, but I’ve also gotten great results with POGO Original Corn Dogs, Bar S Corn Dogs, Foster Farms Mini Corn Dogs and regular sized corn dogs, Johnsonville Corn Dogs, Costco Corn Dogs, and even vegan Field Roast Mini Corn Dogs!
How to reheat corn dogs in the air fryer
To reheat corn dogs, I preheat the air fryer to 400°F, then place the leftover corn dogs in the air fryer basket and air fry for 3-5 minutes.
How can I get my corn dogs to cook evenly in the air fryer?
I cook my corn dogs at a lower heat in a preheated air fryer to make sure the outside gets crispy while still cooking in the inside so it gets warm. I find 350 degrees F works perfectly for it.
How do I store and reheat leftover air fryer corn dogs?
If I have any leftover air fryer corn dogs, I let them cool, then pop them into an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. For reheating, the air fryer is still the best way to go! After 3-5 minutes at 400 degrees F, they get nice and crispy again in just a few minutes without any sogginess.
