My baked green beans are tossed in olive oil and savory seasonings, then baked in the oven to form a crispy parmesan coating. They are perfectly tender on the inside, and the whole recipe comes together in less than 20 minutes!

My Easy Recipe For Roasted Green Beans
When I need a simple side dish to complete my dinner plans, my baked green beans are a family favorite recipe because of how easy and flavorful they are!
Frozen and canned green beans come in handy when I’m making my tater tot casserole with green beans or a green bean casserole with canned green beans, but I use fresh beans in this recipe and love how crisp and juicy they are.
The parmesan coating is what makes these oven baked green beans a winner. I always use freshly grated parmesan, and the cheesy coating crisps up so nicely as it bakes. My son, Connor, loves the extra crunch it adds and says it’s the perfect addition to the tender veggies!
On top of this recipe having an unmatched texture, I also love that it only requires 6 ingredients: olive oil, parmesan cheese, garlic salt, onion powder, pepper, and of course, the beans.
Green beans will always be on my list of favorite veggies because of how well sauces and seasonings hold up on them. Just like my roasted green beans, garlic green beans and my smothered green beans recipe are two more savory dishes that showcase just how versatile and tasty these veggies are!

Green Beans in the Oven Ingredients
- Green beans – For this recipe, I use fresh green beans. Make sure to trim, wash, and dry them before adding the seasonings.
- Olive oil – Allows the seasoning and cheese to stick while also helping the green beans crisp up on the outside.
- Grated parmesan cheese – Freshly grated parmesan is my favorite and adds a layer of savory richness.
- Onion powder – Infuses earthy warmth into every bite. Powdered onion is my go-to as it spreads evenly and won’t burn at a high temperature.
- Garlic salt – This adds the perfect amount of garlicky and salty flavor without being overpowering. Honestly, it ties the whole dish together!
- Pepper – I use black pepper to add subtle heat to my green beans. A little goes a long way here.

Expert Tips
- Use the freshest green beans for the best results. The best ones will be smooth, firm, and have a vibrant green color that’s free from any brown spots or shriveled ends.
- I always line my baking sheet with foil for an easy, mess-free clean up.
- Spread the green beans in an even layer with plenty of space between them. If they’re too close, they’ll steam instead of roast.
- Watch your veggies closely to avoid overcooking them. Baked green beans can easily turn out burnt if left in the oven for too long.
Easy Variations
- If I don’t have garlic salt on hand, regular garlic powder and kosher salt would work just fine as substitutes.
- Panko breadcrumbs are my favorite way to add extra crunch, and they pair wonderfully with the grated parmesan too! I use this breading method for my air fryer green beans recipe, but it can easily be adapted for the oven.
- For a smoky twist, I add a dash of smoked paprika. It adds a beautiful hint of color and deepens the overall taste.
- A squeeze of fresh lemon juice on top helps me brighten the flavor of these oven baked green beans and other recipes like my green beans almondine.
What to Serve with Baked Green Beans
My baked green beans taste incredible with a serving of my breaded chicken cutlet recipe or my baked salmon recipe because the crispy texture and natural sweetness complements the savory meat so well. I also love pairing them with hearty recipes like meat stuffed shells without ricotta and my crockpot pork roast. Since the green beans are light and refreshing, they balance out these rich dishes perfectly!

Baked Green Beans FAQs
How do I get perfectly crispy green beans?
The most important tip to guarantee crispy green beans every time is making sure they are fully dry after you wash them. Excess moisture will release steam in the oven and prevent the veggies from crisping up well, so I like to pat them dry with paper towels before seasoning.
How long to bake green beans?
My sweet spot for roasted green beans is anywhere between 10 to 15 minutes. Ovens can vary when it comes to temperature though, so be sure to watch your veggies carefully to avoid overcooking them.
How should I store leftovers?
Stored in an airtight container, leftover green beans can be refrigerated for up to 4 days.
How do I reheat leftovers?
I like reheating these roasted green beans in the oven at 375°F. They will be warmed through again in 10 minutes or less!
