My Favorite Way to Make Oreo Fluff
My Oreo fluff recipe is a treat that my whole family adores. Oreos are known as “milk’s favorite cookie,” but it turns out they’re my kids’ favorite cookie too! Connor and Leah just can’t get enough of these chocolate sandwich cookies, so a pack or two of them can always be found in the pantry.
I had just recently bought a party sized pack of Oreos when I realized… I already had all the other ingredients needed to make an Oreo fluff dessert! I set out to make a creamy, fluffy dip to surprise the kids, and their reaction was priceless.
When Leah first tried the fluff, her eyes opened wide! She said that just when she thought Oreos couldn’t get any better, this recipe proved her wrong. Connor had no words, but his smile said it all. I am so happy to have a new treat for my Oreo-loving kids, and I can’t wait to make this one again and again!

Oreo Fluff Dessert Ingredients
- Instant vanilla pudding – Gives the fluff a thick and creamy texture. Instant pudding is required as the cook-and-serve version will not thicken up right.
- Cool Whip – I use one 8-ounce tub of Cool Whip and let it thaw before starting my recipe. This makes it so easy to mix and combine.
- Milk – Regular milk is my favorite for the richest, creamiest results.
- Oreo cookies – I use normal Oreos for my recipe. I have used Double Stuf, but it can get a little overly sweet with the extra filling in them. Other brand chocolate sandwich cookies will work too.

STEP ONE: In a large mixing bowl, add the two packets of vanilla pudding and whisk in the milk until it’s thick and smooth.
STEP TWO: Fold in the Cool Whip and gently combine with the pudding.
STEP THREE: Crush the Oreo cookies by placing them in a gallon Ziploc bag and use a rolling pin to crush them. Reserve ¼ cup of crushed cookies for garnish. Add the remaining crushed Oreos to the pudding mix.
STEP FOUR: Cover the mixing bowl with plastic wrap and transfer it to the refrigerator. Allow it to set for at least an hour, or overnight if possible.
STEP FIVE: When the dip is ready to serve, place it into a serving bowl and garnish with the reserved Oreo pieces. Serve with dippers of choice, or with a spoon, and enjoy!
Tips for the Best Oreo Fluff Recipe
- Everything should be chilled to start. The milk needs to be chilled for the instant pudding to set properly, and the Cool Whip will be fluffiest when it’s thawed but still cold. And when everything is cold to start, my sweet dip will set up faster in the refrigerator!
- Be careful not to overmix! I make sure to fold the Cool Whip in gently and slowly when combining with the pudding. Overmixing will cause the Cool Whip to deflate, which means the mixture will lose its fluffiness.
- For a richer chocolate color, I’ll let the fluff set longer in the refrigerator. The cookies break down more over time, which helps the chocolate color develop. It’s still pretty light and vanilla-forward if I serve it after just one hour.
- I use the party-size pack of Oreo cookies. A regular package of Oreos comes with 36 cookies, but the party size has 72. That gives me enough to use for the actual mixture, the garnish, and dipping.
- Crushing the Oreos into different-sized pieces makes the dip extra chocolatey while also adding some crunch.
Oreo Fluff Salad Variations and Substitutions
- For an even richer flavor, I combine some cream cheese with the vanilla pudding before adding in the Cool Whip. Or sometimes I’ll use cheesecake-flavored pudding mix instead of vanilla.
- Using a different flavor of Oreos is a simple way to switch up the flavor of the dip. While classic Oreos are my personal favorite, golden Oreos can be used for a vanilla dip. And Mint Oreos could be used for a refreshing twist!
- I like to add mix-ins for extra flavor and texture. Chopped nuts or chocolate chips add crunch, while mini marshmallows give it more of a dessert salad feel.
What to Serve with Oreo Fluff
Oreo cookies are my favorite dippers for maximum chocolatey flavor… and because it means I don’t have to buy anything extra! Graham crackers and animal crackers are yummy too (that’s what Connor and Leah prefer), and fresh fruit always tastes delicious with chocolate. My husband, Ben, loves strawberries with this dip.
Oreo Fluff Recipe FAQs
How should I store leftovers?
Leftover fluff can be placed in an airtight container and stored in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. The mixture will keep its rich, fluffy texture and taste delicious served later.
If I know I’ll be making it in advance or saving some for later, I leave off the cookie crumble garnish and add it right before serving so it doesn’t get too soft.
