How to Make Ham and Cheese Roll-Ups

A full printable version of this recipe with ingredient measurements is available at the bottom of this post.

STEP ONE: Place the softened cream cheese and ranch seasoning into a bowl and stir until well-combined. Then, add your cheddar cheese and stir.

mix together the cream cheese filling in small bowl

STEP TWO: Lay out the tortillas and add equal amounts of the mixture to each. Spread until it reaches the edges of the tortilla. Cut the ham into small pieces and divide it evenly onto each tortilla.

STEP THREE: Create the roll-ups. Begin at one end and roll each tortilla until you get to the other end. Refrigerate for about 1 hour, or until you’re ready to eat. Cut the ends off the tortillas, then cut the rolls into 1-inch pieces. Arrange on a serving tray to enjoy!

Can I Make Pinwheels the Night Before?

Absolutely! This is one lunch or party food you can definitely make in advance — they hold better the longer you let them rest in the fridge! You can also feel free to double this recipe for larger parties. As is, my ham and cheese pinwheels will get you between 24 to 30 pinwheels. Use a few more tortillas if you expect a large crowd.

You can even make different variations of my ham cream cheese roll-ups. Use other deli meats like turkey or roast beef. You can also make veggie versions if you sub in the ham for lettuce, tomato, or any other vegetables you like!

How Do I Keep Pinwheels From Getting Soggy?

If you find yourself with soggy ham and cheese pinwheels, you’ll need to adjust the recipe slightly.

The layer of cream cheese should do the trick, but if you do notice some moisture build-up, you need to add another “dry” layer between the tortilla and the rest of the filling. A bit of spinach or lettuce can go a long way.

How Do I Keep Roll-Ups Together?

In addition to being downright tasty, the cream cheese is the secret to keeping your ham and cheese pinwheels together! I like to include cheddar and ranch seasoning to add a little bit more flavor to the roll-up.

Feel free to get creative with your added seasoning. The mixture acts as the glue that will hold your appetizer/snack/cold lunch together. It works like a charm!

How to Store Leftover Ham and Cheese Roll-Ups

Place the leftover ham cream cheese roll-ups in an air-tight container and place them in the fridge. They will keep for 3 to 4 days.

You can also freeze leftovers. Grab a baking sheet and line it with parchment paper. Place the roll-ups on top and freeze for about 2 hours. Then, put the frozen pinwheels in an airtight container, making sure to put parchment paper between each layer. They will keep for about 3 months. When you’re ready to enjoy, simply defrost them in the fridge overnight!

  1. Delish as is.
Then, substituted turkey breast for ham and cranberry sauce for ranch powder! Mixed cranberry and cream cheese, carefully.
