Turkey Sliders

My cheese and turkey sliders are made with sweet Hawaiian rolls for the best taste and texture! I brush my sliders with savory homemade butter mixture, then pop them into the oven until golden and melty.

My Easy Turkey Sliders Recipe

My recipe for turkey sliders is one of my family’s favorite meals to make during Thanksgiving week! Every year, my husband Ben, kids, and I are looking for new ways to use up the leftover turkey, and last year, my turkey and cheese sliders were a huge hit. 

Sliders can be made on the grill or stove top, but I prefer making them in the oven because the whole process is much simpler. Using Hawaiian bread makes it easy to prepare a large batch without any mess, and once I pop them in the oven, there’s no additional work required.

My daughter, Leah, told me she preferred my small-bite sliders over regular sandwiches or burgers. My son, Connor, chimed in too, sharing how much he loved the miniature size. I already can’t wait for the holidays to come around. I might make an extra turkey just to have enough leftovers for sliders!

Ingredients for turkey sliders: Kings Hawaiian Rolls, mayonnaise, turkey, cheddar cheese, unsalted butter, Dijon mustard, light brown sugar, worcestershire, and everything seasoning.

Turkey and Cheese Sliders Ingredients 

  • Hawaiian rolls – I use one whole package of the King’s Hawaiian brand, which gives me 12 rolls total.
  • Turkey – Leftover turkey is my favorite type of meat to use for turkey sliders, but deli slices can be used if preferred.
  • Cheddar cheese – This creamy, sharp cheese melts beautifully and ties the whole recipe together.
  • Mayonnaise – My favorite condiment to spread on sliders. It adds moisture to the bread while also enhancing the overall recipe!
  • Butter – To add flavor and turn the rolls a beautiful golden color, I baste them with a melted butter mixture. I prefer unsalted butter so I can control how much salt goes into the recipe.
  • Dijon mustard – Adds bold, earthy notes to the butter mixture. Dijon is my favorite, but spicy brown mustard or yellow mustard will also work well.
  • Light brown sugar – Balances out the other savory ingredients by adding the perfect amount of sweetness.
  • Worcestershire sauce – Rounds out the taste of the butter mixture with its tangy, salty flavor.
  • Everything Bagel seasoning – I usually reach for store-bought, but a homemade blend with poppy seeds, sesame seeds, dried onion, dried garlic, and salt will work just fine too.

How to Make Turkey Sliders

STEP ONE: Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F.

STEP TWO: Slice the entire loaf of Hawaiian bread lengthwise, keeping the individual sliders together.

STEP THREE: Place the bottom half of the loaf into a 9×7 or 9×13 baking pan. Then, spread the mayo over the bread.

STEP FOUR: Layer half of the turkey over the mayo-covered bread. Next, layer the cheese slices over the turkey. Top with the remaining turkey and cover with the top half of the bread.

STEP FIVE: In a microwaveable bowl, melt the butter. Add the Dijon mustard, brown sugar, Worcestershire, and Everything seasoning, then whisk until fully combined. Brush the melted butter mixture over the top of the loaf of bread.

STEP SIX: Cover the pan with aluminum foil and bake for 15 minutes. Remove the foil and cook for 10 minutes more, until the bread is golden and the cheese is bubbling. Serve immediately, and enjoy!

Tips for the Best Hawaiian Roll Turkey Sliders

  • A sharp, serrated knife makes slicing easy. This is my best tip for even cutting and perfectly sliced Hawaiian rolls.
  • It’s important to keep the rolls connected so nothing falls through the cracks! Once the sliders are baked, they can be sliced or pulled apart for serving.
  • To ensure even cooking, I carefully layer the turkey and cheese evenly across the bread.
  • I use a basting brush to evenly spread the melted butter mixture over the top of the rolls. 

Sliders Variations and Substitutions

  • For heartier sliders, I’ll include extra toppings like pickles or bacon. Avocado is good too, but it should be added after baking. These are so easy to personalize for the whole family.
  • If I have other Thanksgiving leftovers on hand, I like to spread some cranberry sauce onto the bread for additional sweetness and texture.
  • To add some heat, swap out regular mayo with spicy mayo or switch up the cheese! My husband’s favorite cheese for sliders is Pepper Jack.
  • Brioche buns are my favorite alternative to use for the bread if Hawaiian rolls aren’t available.

What to Serve with Turkey Sliders on Hawaiian Rolls

My sliders are soft and tender, so I like to pair them with crispy side dishes to balance out the whole meal! Some of my favorite recipes to serve them with include a fresh chicken Caesar salad, air fryer sweet potato fries, or my creamy homemade coleslaw.

Absolutely! Using leftovers not only helps me avoid waste, but it also allows me to save time since the turkey is already cooked and ready to use.

How should I store leftover sliders?

Stored in an airtight container, my Hawaiian roll turkey sliders will last for up to 3 days in the refrigerator. For longer storage, I wrap each slider individually and place them all in a freezer-safe bag. They will store well in the freezer for about 3 months.

How do I reheat leftover turkey sliders? 

My favorite way to reheat turkey sliders on Hawaiian rolls is in the toaster oven or air fryer at 350 degrees F until warmed through. This allows the cheese to melt and the bread to get nice and crispy again.
