My Easy Dunkaroo Dip
My recipe for funfetti dip was inspired by my 6-year-old son Connor’s favorite cake flavor… funfetti! He loves all things that are sweet, so I set out to turn one of his favorite desserts into something that could be easily whipped up for a snack or after-dinner treat.
My Dunkaroo recipe made with funfetti cake mix is just as tasty as the classic cake but is so much simpler to make. There’s no baking involved, and the whole recipe comes together with just some simple mixing.
Connor took one bite and told me that he loved this funfetti dip just as much as he loved funfetti cake. He even asked if I could add this to the menu for his next birthday party!
I’ll still be making him a cake, of course, but with the help of this dip, I’ll be able to help him celebrate his special day in more than one way! I’m thinking a build-your-own snack plate table, complete with dip cups and plenty of dippers.

Funfetti Dip Ingredients
- Funfetti cake mix – I use one full box of cake mix. Funfetti mix has a sweet vanilla flavoring and rainbow sprinkles all throughout it.
- Cream cheese – Serves as the base of the dip and adds a tangy flavor to contrast the sweetness of the other ingredients.
- Cool Whip – Gives the dip a light, fluffy texture. Regular whipped cream will fall flat quickly, so I recommend using a whipped topping like Cool Whip instead.
- Milk – For the richest and creamiest dip, I use whole milk.
- Sprinkles – To give the dip an extra splash of color and some crunchy texture. Rainbow sprinkles are my favorite!

STEP THREE: Transfer the mixture to a serving bowl and top with sprinkles.
Tips for the Best Dunkaroo Dip Recipe
- Heat treating the raw flour will help prevent any possible bacteria contamination. This can be done by placing the cake mix in a microwave safe bowl, then heating in 30 second intervals, stirring in between until it reaches 165 degrees F.
- Using an electric mixer is the best way to get a smooth, creamy dip without lumps.
- I wait until right before serving to add the sprinkle topping. This will prevent the colors from bleeding onto the rest of the dip.
- If the dip is refrigerated and sits for more than a day, the sprinkle colors will begin to bleed. When I’m ready to eat it, I allow it to sit at room temperature for at least 15 minutes to soften again, stir, and add additional sprinkles.
- Choose sprinkles that have unique shapes! Rainbow sprinkles come in all sorts of shapes and sizes, so using different ones will add some fun to the recipe.

Funfetti Cake Dip Variations and Substitutions
- Adding a splash of vanilla extract will enhance the overall taste and complement the vanilla flavor of the funfetti mix.
- If I want to make the dip even sweeter, I’ll use vanilla yogurt instead of cream cheese as the base. Greek yogurt is even better since it’s so thick.
- Mix-ins add additional texture and flavor. Some of my favorites include mini chocolate chips, pretzels, cookies, or nuts.
- For an even lighter, fluffier texture, I add marshmallow fluff in place of the Cool Whip.
- To give it a super colorful twist, I add a drop or two of gel food coloring when mixing the cake mix, cream cheese, and Cool Whip. A little goes a long way!

What to Serve with Dunkaroo Dip
Crackers are my kids’ top picks for dipping when it comes to this dessert dips. Connor always reaches for animal crackers, while my daughter, Leah, prefers graham crackers… especially the honey or cinnamon kind. Fresh fruit or vanilla wafers also taste amazing with this sweet funfetti dip recipe, and they’re both a little tamer for adult palates!

Funfetti Dip FAQs
Does Funfetti dip need to be chilled?
Yes! While this dessert dip is already made with cold ingredients like milk, cream cheese, and Cool Whip, letting it chill in the refrigerator for 30 minutes before serving will allow the dip to set and firm up a little bit more.
How should I store leftovers?
Leftover dip can be covered and refrigerated for up to 4 days. Storing it in an airtight container is the best way to keep it fresh, but keep in mind that the sprinkle colors will begin to bleed into the dip after it has been stored for more than a day. I usually scrape them off before storing, or simply portion out what we’ll be eating and store the rest sprinkle-free!
