Why I’m obsessed with this creamy dill pickle dip

This dill pickle dip is my husband Ben’s newest obsession, and I am just as equally in love with it too! With how delicious it tastes, it never takes us long to finish the bowl.

Luckily, I can easily whip up a new batch in a matter of minutes, so there’s never too much time that passes before enjoying more.

Like every good dip recipe, including my famous 7 layer taco dip and my Rotel cheese dip, this pickle dip has such a satisfying taste and texture. Ben has always loved pickles but says this recipe takes them to a whole new level by pairing their naturally crunchy texture with a rich, creamy base.

I couldn’t have said it better myself!

The dip is packed with 7 tasty ingredients, but for me, the key ingredients that really make the recipe are the sour cream and the Worcestershire sauce.

Sour cream is rich and flavorful but keeps things light enough for the taste of the fresh dill to shine through. And, on top of that, the Worcestershire adds just the right amount of depth to cut through the richness and balance out the recipe.

Ingredients for dill pickle dip: Fresh dill, cream cheese, worcestershire sauce, dill pickles, dill pickle juice, garlic powder, and sour cream.

Pickle dip recipe ingredients

  • Sour cream – This tangy ingredient creates a base that’s wonderfully rich but can also be easily scooped.
  • Cream cheese – Thickens the texture of the dip while also adding more tanginess.
  • Chopped fresh dill – Adds a bright, and refreshing taste to the dip. Fresh dill is my favorite here, but you can use about 2 teaspoons of dried in place of the 2 tablespoons fresh.
  • Worcestershire sauce – Brings umami richness and warmth into the recipe. This is my secret ingredient that rounds out the overall taste of the dip!
  • Garlic powder – Infuses bold, savory notes into each bite to complement the sharp tang of the other ingredients.
  • Chopped dill pickles – Opt for dill pickles that have a briny and tangy taste. Avoid using sweet pickles or bread-and-butter pickles as these can overpower the classic pickle taste you are aiming for.
  • Dill pickle juice – Boosts the overall pickle taste while also thinning out the dip to give it the perfect consistency.

How to make dill pickle dip

STEP ONE: In a large mixing bowl, use a hand mixer to whip the softened cream cheese and sour cream.

Whip sour cream and cream cheese together to make the base of the dip.
Dill pickle juice, garlic powder, and worcestershire sauce added to the dip.

STEP TWO: Add in the dill pickle juice, Worcestershire sauce, and garlic powder. Continue mixing until the ingredients are incorporated and the mixture is smooth.

STEP THREE: Next, use a spatula to fold in the chopped dill pickles and fresh dill.

Chopped fresh dill and pickles added to the dip.

STEP FOUR: Serve the dip right away, or chill it for 30 minutes first for a deeper flavor. Top it with extra chopped pickles if you like, and serve with chips or veggies.

STEP FIVE: Top with additional chopped pickles if desired. Serve and enjoy with dippers!

Recipe tips

  • Allow the cream cheese to soften at room temperature before starting this recipe. Leaving it out on the counter for about 30 minutes always does the trick for me!
  • Use full-fat dairy for the best results. I don’t recommend using light sour cream or light cream cheese because the dill pickle dip won’t turn out as rich or creamy.
  • Pat the pickles dry before chopping them. Sometimes I’ll pat them again after chopping too. Removing any excess moisture will ensure the dip doesn’t get too watery.
  • My hand mixer is a lifesaver and helps me easily combine all of the ingredients without having to work too hard.

Variations

  • For a richer dip, try replacing half of the sour cream with mayonnaise. The mayo will add a savory and buttery taste to this dill pickle cream cheese dip.
  • If you want to spice things up, use spicy dill pickles instead of regular. They are already infused with the perfect amount of heat. You could also add in a dash of cayenne pepper if you prefer.
  • Smoked paprika is one of my favorite seasonings to add for extra depth. I love how the subtle smokiness complements the other savory ingredients.
  • To add a satisfying crunch, I top this pickle dip recipe with lightly toasted panko breadcrumbs. This mirrors the delicious texture of air fried pickles.

What to serve with pickle dip

My dill pickle dip tastes fabulous with classic dippers like potato chips, pita chips, crackers, celery, and pretzels. I also love pairing this dip with air fryer tortilla chips and pita chips, then serving all of these items with hearty entrées like my oven baked burgers recipe or my hot dogs in the oven
