One-Pan Beanie Weenies (Franks & Beans)
My beanie weenies take 7 ingredients and one pan. I brown the bacon and sliced hot dogs first, then cook the onion right in that bacon fat before the pork and beans go in. Barbecue sauce, brown sugar, and yellow mustard turn it into a sweet and smoky sauce that simmers down in about 20 minutes. Browning first is what keeps it from tasting like it came out of a can.

- 12 ounces bacon chopped
- ½ medium onion diced
- 6 hot dogs sliced into rounds
- 3 (15-ounce) cans Pork and Beans I use Van Camp's
- ½ cup barbecue sauce
- 2 tablespoons brown sugar
- 1 tablespoon yellow mustard
Place the chopped bacon and sliced hot dogs in a large cold skillet, then turn the heat to medium. Cook for 8 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the bacon is browned and crispy and the hot dogs are browned too.
If there is a lot of grease in the pan, carefully pour off some. Leave about 1-2 tablespoons in the pan.
Add the diced onion. Cook for 3-4 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the onions are softened.
Stir in the pork and beans, then scrape up the browned bits from the bottom of the pan.
Stir in the barbecue sauce, brown sugar, and mustard.
Reduce the heat to low. Cook it uncovered for 15-20 minutes, stirring occasionally. The sauce should be hot and slightly thickened.
Taste before serving. Add a little more barbecue sauce, mustard, or brown sugar if needed.
Start the bacon in a cold skillet so the fat renders out slowly. If you use baked beans instead of pork and beans, leave the brown sugar out and add it at the end once you taste it, since baked beans start out sweeter.
Store leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 4 days or the freezer for up to 3 months.
Reheat on the stove with a splash of water.
For the slow cooker, brown the bacon and hot dogs first, then cook everything on low for 4 to 5 hours.
