Easy Philly Cheesesteak Sliders

Samantha Erb
My Philly cheesesteak sliders are a fun twist on regular cheesesteak sandwiches! The flavor of the sweet Hawaiian rolls complements the savory steak and veggie mixture so well. My family always enjoys these on game days, served with classic sides like mac and cheese or fries.

Ingredients

For the Steak Filling:

  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil or olive oil
  • 1 small onion sliced
  • 1 red bell pepper sliced
  • 1 green bell pepper sliced
  • 27 ounces Steak-umms or shaved steak
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper
  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder
  • ½ teaspoon smoked paprika optional, adds depth

For the Sliders:

  • 12 King's Hawaiian rolls sliced in half horizontally
  • 6–8 slices Provolone cheese or white American cheese
  • 3 tablespoons butter melted

Instructions

  • Heat the oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the sliced onions and bell peppers, and cook them until they’re tender but still a bit crisp.
  • Add the shaved steak and sprinkle in the salt, pepper, garlic powder, and smoked paprika.
  • Cook, stirring now and then, until the steak is fully heated and lightly browned. Drain off any excess liquid so the sliders stay crisp, then set the mixture aside.
  • Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Line a 9x9 or 9x13-inch baking dish with foil or parchment for easy cleanup.
  • Slice the rolls in half horizontally, keeping the tops and bottoms together as a sheet for easier assembly. Place the bottom half on the baking dish. Spread the steak and veggie mixture evenly over it.
  • Top the steak mixture with slices of cheese, and then cover with the top half of the rolls. Brush the top with melted butter.
  • Bake the sliders in the preheated oven for 10 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and the buns are lightly golden.
  • Let the sliders rest for 2–3 minutes, then slice them into individual sliders and enjoy!

Notes

  •  Line the pan with foil or parchment paper to make cleanup easier!
  • Drain any excess moisture from the meat after cooking it so the sliders don't get soggy
  • Use a sharp, serrated knife to slice through the Hawaiian rolls cleanly and evenly.
  • Use unsalted butter to brush the tops of the rolls. There's already enough salt in the recipe to not need more.
  • Broil the sliders for 1 to 2 minutes to help them crisp up beautifully. Watch them carefully, as they can go from golden to burnt in a quick minute.
  • Store leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days.
  • Reheat leftovers in the oven at 325 degrees F for 8-10 minutes, in the microwave for 30-45 seconds, or in the air fryer.
