Easy Mummy Hot Dogs (Crescent Dough)

My mummy hot dogs take 4 ingredients and about 25 minutes start to finish. I cut crescent dough into thin strips, wrap them around the hot dogs in a loose crisscross, and bake until the dough is golden. The candy eyes go on with a dab of mustard after they come out of the oven, so they do not melt. I serve them with mustard for dipping.

Equipment

  • Large baking sheet
  • parchment paper
  • Cutting board
  • Pizza cutter or sharp knife

Ingredients

  • 8 hot dogs patted dry
  • 1 package refrigerated crescent dough sheet or crescent rolls pressed into a sheet of dough
  • 16 candy eyeballs
  • Mustard for attaching the eyeballs and serving

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven to 375°F. Line a large baking sheet with parchment paper and set it aside.
  • Unroll the crescent dough sheet onto a cutting board. Using a pizza cutter, cut the dough into thin strips about ¼ to ½-inch wide. This will be about 3 strips per hot dog.
  • Starting at one end of each hot dog, wrap 3 strips of dough around it in a loose crisscross pattern. Leave small gaps between the strips and an uncovered area near the top for the eyes. Gently press the ends of the dough together as needed.
  • Place the hot dogs on a baking sheet and bake them for 8 to 10 minutes, or until the dough is cooked through, golden brown, and the hot dogs are heated through.
  • Remove them from the oven. Place a dab of mustard on the back of each candy eyeball and gently press 2 on each hot dog toward the top to create eyes.
  • Serve warm with mustard for dipping.

Notes

Pat the hot dogs dry using a paper towel so the crescent dough will stick better.
Add the candy eyes after baking as they will melt and crack in the oven.
Store leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days.
Reheat leftovers in the oven at 350°F for about 5 minutes, or in the air fryer at 330°F for 3-5 minutes, until they're warmed through again.
