Ingredients

  • 4-6 slices sandwich bread
  • cup milk
  • 2 large eggs
  • ½ tablespoon granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • ½ teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • Pinch kosher salt

Instructions

  • Preheat the air fryer to 350 degrees.
  • In a medium-sized shallow bowl, whisk together the milk, eggs, sugar, vanilla, cinnamon, and salt until they're well combined.
  • Dip each piece of bread into the mixture, soaking both sides in the liquid for 15 seconds per side, allowing the excess to drip off.
  • Spray the inner basket with cooking oil spray, then place the pieces of bread in a single layer inside, working in batches as needed.
  • Air fry them for 6 minutes, flipping them halfway through the cook time.
  • Serve with butter and maple syrup or honey, or sprinkle the pieces with granulated sugar and garnish with fresh berries.

Notes

  • To avoid soggy bread, let excess egg mixture drip off each slice before placing it in the air fryer basket. This also prevents it from dripping and burning in the basket.
  • For even cooking that gets each slice golden brown, air fry the bread slices in a single layer.
  • If you need to cook more in batches, store each finished batch of air fryer French toast in the oven on WARM until you have enough slices for the whole family.
  • To freeze leftovers, let the slices cool, then place them on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper in the freezer. Once frozen, transfer them to a freezer-safe bag or container.
  • Store leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 4 days.
  • Reheat leftovers in a preheated air fryer at 320 degrees F for 2-4 minutes, depending on the bread thickness.
