Mix the sugar, butter, eggs, vanilla extract, and salt in a large bowl.
In a separate small bowl, mix the milk and baking soda until the baking soda is fully dissolved. Then add to the sugar mixture.
Slowly add in the flour, mixing as you go, until everything is mixed fully.
Place cookie dough in the fridge for at least an hour to allow for it to chill. Do not try to roll the warm dough, it will stick.
Remove cookie dough from the fridge and roll out on a freshly floured surface. Cookies can be rolled thin and they will stay soft and fluffy when cooking.
Preheat the oven to 400 degrees and place parchment paper over a cookie sheet.

Sift powdered sugar into a large bowl.
Add 6 teaspoons of milk, the corn syrup, and almond extract to the bowl and mix.
Add up to an additional 2 teaspoons of milk to get desired consistency.
Separate into additional bowls if you want to make more colors and add food coloring.
