Ingredients

Sugar Cookies

  • 1 cup sugar
  • ½ cup butter softened
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon milk
  • ¾ teaspoon baking soda
  • 2 ½ cups flour 300 grams

Icing

  • 2 cups powdered sugar sifted
  • 6-8 teaspoons of milk
  • 4 teaspoon corn syrup
  • ½ teaspoon almond extract
  • Food coloring

Instructions

  • Mix the sugar, butter, eggs, vanilla extract, and salt in a large bowl.
  • In a separate small bowl, mix the milk and baking soda until the baking soda is fully dissolved. Then add to the sugar mixture.
  • Slowly add in the flour, mixing as you go, until everything is mixed fully.
  • Place cookie dough in the fridge for at least an hour to allow for it to chill. Do not try to roll the warm dough, it will stick.
  • Remove cookie dough from the fridge and roll out on a freshly floured surface. Cookies can be rolled thin and they will stay soft and fluffy when cooking.
  • Preheat the oven to 400 degrees and place parchment paper over a cookie sheet.
  • Cook cookies for 5-6 minutes then remove from the oven. Cool on a rack.
  • Once completely cooled, frost and decorate!

ICING

  • Sift powdered sugar into a large bowl.
  • Add 6 teaspoons of milk, the corn syrup, and almond extract to the bowl and mix.
  • Add up to an additional 2 teaspoons of milk to get desired consistency.
  • Separate into additional bowls if you want to make more colors and add food coloring.

Notes

Icing does harden up after a few hours.
