Homemade Irish Soda Bread

– Unsalted butter – All-purpose flour – Granulated sugar – Baking powder – Baking soda – Kosher salt – Milk – Large egg – Raisins 

Melt butter in the microwave and set aside. In a bowl, mix flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, salt and butter.

Step 1

Add in milk, egg, and raisins and stir. Turn dough out onto a floured surface and knead, forming it into a round ball.

Step 2

Place on the baking sheet. Add the milk and melted butter to the bowl and whisk, then brush the loaf with the mixture.

Step 3

Sprinkle sugar, then cut an 'X' into the loaf. Bake for 45-50 minutes, brushing the loaf 2-3 times with the milk mixture and sprinkling with sugar.

Allow the bread to cool for 5-10 minutes, then slice and serve!
