EVERYDAY FAMILY COOKING

– Ham drippings (plus broth) – Flour – Unsalted butter – Black pepper, to taste

After the ham is cooked, transfer to a serving platter and drain any drippings into a measuring cup.

1

Add enough broth or water to bring the liquid up to 1 ½ total cups. In a saucepan set over medium-low heat, melt the butter.

2

Once melted, whisk in flour until clumps are smoothed out. Cook for about 2 minutes, until golden.

3

Slowly add the drippings and broth, whisking constantly. Bring to a simmer and let it cook until it reaches your desired thickness.

4

Taste and season as desired, then serve over ham.
