Green beans with bacon in an oblong serving dish with a fork.

Crack Green Beans

Samantha Erb
These crack green beans are a quick and deliciously addictive side dish. Fresh green beans are sauteed with crisp, salty bacon and tossed in a sweet-and-savory glaze. Enjoy these green beans with roasted chicken, pork chops, or steak!

Ingredients

  • 8 ounces thick cut bacon diced
  • 1 ½ pounds green beans trimmed
  • cup light brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons butter melted
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • ½ teaspoon cracked black pepper
  • ¼ teaspoon kosher salt

Instructions

  • Add the bacon to a large skillet set over medium heat and cook until crisp and browned– about 7 minutes. Remove the bacon from the skillet with a slotted spoon and set it aside on a paper towel lined plate to drain. Remove all but 2 tablespoons of bacon grease from the pan.
  • Add the trimmed green beans to the same skillet and sauté them in the bacon grease for 5 minutes, or until they are just beginning to soften and brown.
  • In a small bowl, whisk together the light brown sugar, melted butter, soy sauce, garlic powder, kosher salt, and cracked black pepper until well combined.
  • Pour the brown sugar mixture over the green beans and stir to coat the green beans in the glaze.
  • Cook for an additional 2-3 minutes, or until the glaze has thickened and the green beans are crisp-tender.
  • Add the crisp bacon back to the green beans and stir to combine. Enjoy immediately.
