Ingredients You Need to Make This DIY Halloween Treat for Kids

  • White Fudge Ding Dongs – While Hostess’ White Ding Dongs are typically covered in chocolate frosting, you can find white fudge ding dongs at stores like Walmart.

Can’t find the white fudge flavor? Don’t worry! I’ve included steps on how to turn normal chocolate cake Ding Dong’s into these mummies too!
  • White Cookie Icing – I love using the Betty Crocker Cookie Icing that already comes in a pipeable bag. It’s easy to use and much less messy when baking with kids!
  • Candy Eyes – These are super cheap and very versatile for other desserts year-round!

I Can’t Find White Fudge Ding Dongs! How Can I Still Make These?

If you can’t find the White Fudge variety in the store, do not worry. You can make these using their original chocolate cake Ding Dongs with just a few more ingredients.

Ingredients You’ll Need:

Using coconut oil or shortening help keeps the white chocolate smooth for longer, making it easier to work with.

Without it, the chocolate can start to get clumpy very quickly – which makes for a frustrating time.

Directions:

  1. Place the white baking chips and coconut oil in a microwave-safe bowl and microwave for 1 minute. Stir, then continue to microwave the baking chips in 30-second intervals, stirring after each time until the chocolate is smooth. You can also use the double boiler method.
  2. Dip the Chocolate Cake Ding Dongs into the white chocolate coating it on all sides.
  3. Place on a cooling rack, let dry, then continue the recipe as normal below!

How to Make Halloween Mummy Desserts

  • Remove each Ding Dong from its packaging and place them on a large plate, cutting board, or cooling rack.
  • Cut the tip of the icing tube about 1/3 of the way down.
  • Using a butter knife, gently flatten the tip o the frosting tube so it comes out in ribbons and not strings. This will give it the true mummy wrapped look.

  • Cover the top of each Ding Dong in long ribbons going side to side and overlapping some wrappings as you go, letting it drape down the sides.

I like to leave room to place the eyes, but let your kids take control of the icing and worry about the eyes later.

  • Using the icing, put two eyes on each Ding Dong.
  • Repeat with remaining Ding Dongs, let dry, and serve!

How to Store These Mummy Treats

It’s important to let the cookie icing completely dry before storing them.

Once ready, place in a large rectangular Tupperware container (I like to use these) (LINK) and place each Mummy inside in one layer.

If you have a taller Tupperware container, use pieces of parchment paper to separate each Mummy so they don’t stick together.
