My Family Loved Recipe For Carrots in the Air Fryer

My air fryer carrots are the second recipe I ever cooked in the air fryer. I have no idea why I decided to roast them in there, but crazy me thought it would be a great idea… And it was!

I’ve been in awe at how many people have made my recipe for air fryer carrots in the last 4 years – more than 650,000 people! But I shouldn’t be shocked because even my 5-year-old son, Connor, loves them. And he’s not a fan of most veggies.

I still remember the first time I made them. I had no idea what I was doing fumbling through the air fryer dials. I cut my carrots up and tossed them in the air fryer. Once they were on the table, I couldn’t stop talking about them.

I know I probably shouldn’t talk about the food I made, but it was a turning point for the air fryer that made me create this very site and take my readers into my kitchen to try this recipe and all of my other favorites.

And, if you love a good air fryer vegetable recipe, try my recipes for air fryer baby carrots, air fryer asparagus, air fryer squash, air fryer french fries, air fryer corn on the cob, and air fryer sweet potato cubes.

Ingredients needed to air fry carrots from up above.

Air Fry Carrots Ingredients

  • Carrots – I recommend using large carrots as baby carrots contain more water
  • Butter
  • Honey – I have also substituted this for maple syrup and brown sugar
  • Italian seasoning
  • Salt – I use table or kosher salt, but have used sea salt as well
  • Pepper

How to Cook Carrots in The Air Fryer

A full printable version of this recipe with ingredient measurements is available at the bottom of this post.

STEP ONE: Preheat the air fryer to 375 degrees F and wash, peel, and chop the carrots into 1-inch pieces.

STEP TWO: In a large bowl, combine the melted butter, honey, Italian seasoning, salt, and pepper. Add in the carrots and toss to coat the carrots thoroughly.

Raw cut carrots in an air fryer basket ready to be cooked.

STEP THREE: Place the carrots in the air fryer basket or tray in a single layer and air fry them for 10 to 15 minutes, flipping them halfway through cooking. I always check the carrots with a fork to make sure they are tender but still firm before removing them.

STEP FOUR: Drizzle with a little extra honey if desired and serve!

Tips For the Best Air Fryer Roasted Carrots

  • Cut the carrots into even-sized pieces so they cook evenly.
  • Preheat the air fryer before adding in the carrots. I preheat my air fryer every time I use it so the food cooks faster and anyone can use my recipes no matter what kind of air fryer they have.
  • Use butter to help roast the carrots. I find that butter and oil helps the carrots air fry without getting too dry. I always use one or the other when air frying any raw vegetables.
  • Air fry the carrots in a single layer inside basket or tray. I always cook my foods in an even single layer to let the hot air circulate and heat the food up evenly.
  • Drizzle the carrots with a little more honey after cooking. I love doing this to add a little more honey flavor that may have cooked into the carrots or fallen off in the air fryer.

Air Fryer Carrots Substitutions and Variations

  • Use maple syrup or brown sugar instead of honey for a deeper, richer sweetness. I love using maple syrup in the fall!
  • Add a pinch of cinnamon for a warm-spiced flavor.
  • Use rainbow carrots to create a beautiful presentation. I always feel like this makes serving carrots look super gourmet from the start.
  • Toss in some fresh thyme, rosemary, parsley or garlic powder instead of the honey for a more savory flavor.
  • Sprinkle Parmesan cheese on top before serving.
  • Omit the honey and just use butter or olive oil and some salt and pepper. This is the original way I roasted carrots in the air fryer and it’s still my second favorite way.
  • Add in some cayenne pepper or red pepper flakes to add in some spice. I’ve also used chili powder and cumin for a full spicy version.

What to Serve with Air Fry Carrots

I love to serve this side dish with a simple protein like air fryer chicken legs, air fryer pork loin, or air fryer pork chops with a carb like air fryer garlic bread.

If my kids had it their way, they would eat these with air fryer chicken tenders and air fryer biscuits every night of their lives. And yes, I do make that combination a ton!

Air Fryer Carrots FAQs

How Long to Cook Carrots in the Air Fryer

My carrots take about 10 to 15 minutes to cook in a preheated air fryer at 375 degrees F.

How to Know When Air Fried Carrots are Done Cooking

I love to cook my carrots until I can poke them with a fork and they are tender so the fork glides through them, but they still have some firmness.

How to Store Leftover Air Fryer Roasted Carrots

I store my leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 4 days. They also keep in the freezer for up to 3 months. I just thaw them overnight before reheating them up the next day.

How Do You Add Flavor to Air Fryer Carrots From Raw?

A lot of the flavor comes from roasting the carrots for long enough that the sweetness comes out. Even just salt and black pepper does enough to bring out more flavor.

When I want to add a different flavor to my carrots, I add ingredients like honey and/or Italian seasoning. I’ve also used brown sugar, maple syrup, and other seasonings.

Do I Need to Peel Carrots Before Air Frying?

No, as long as the carrots are scrubbed and cleaned, they can be air fried and eaten with their skin on. I personally prefer to peel my carrots, so I included that step in my recipe.

Can I Double This Air Fryer Carrots Recipe?

Yes, I double this recipe in my larger air fryers all the time! As long as the carrots can be cooked in a single layer, they can all be air fried at the same time. If there are too many carrots for the air fryer, I recommend cooking them in batches.

How to Reheat Roasted Carrots in The Air Fryer

I love to reheat my carrots in the air fryer at 350 degrees for 3 to 4 minutes until the carrots are warmed.
